Teaching Beyond Your Instrument: Practical Strategies for the Well-Rounded Music Educator explores how music educators can successfully teach outside their primary area of expertise. Drawing from real classroom experience, Zoë Trumble shares practical strategies for building confidence when teaching unfamiliar ensembles and courses. Participants will learn how transferable musical skills, growth mindset practices, effective classroom management, professional networks, and quality resources can support student success across all music disciplines. Designed for collegiate music education students and emerging educators, this session emphasizes adaptability, lifelong learning, and the belief that strong teaching skills are often more important than specialized expertise alone.

Biography

Zoë Trumble is the Director of Music at Gulf Coast Academy of Innovation and Technology at Brookside. A graduate of Stetson University earning her Bachelor of Music and an Outside Field in Education in 2025, she specializes in Choral Music Education. In her second year of teaching, Miss Trumble directs upper-level middle school band, choir, orchestra, and musical theatre programs while maintaining experience across multiple ensemble settings. Having taught choir and orchestra in her first-year teaching and previous experience giving private lessons in guitar, piano, percussion, and voice, she is passionate about ensuring that all students receive the music education they deserve regardless of the specialty of the teacher. Miss Trumble is honored to be helping prepare future music educators to confidently teach beyond their primary instrument and embrace the versatility required in modern music classrooms.
