Florida Music Education Association

The mission of the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) is to promote quality, comprehensive music education in all Florida schools. FMEA is an umbrella organization concerned with activities that affect all aspects of music education. The component organizations and councils (see below) handle activities that deal specifically with a particular area. Join or renew your FMEA membership today!

FMEA Component Associations

Component organizations focus on a particular subject matter and grade level and have their own 501(c)(3) status, executive director, and board of directors.

FMEA serves as the umbrella organization for seven component organizations that offer music education programs and events that pertain to their particular area. Members of FMEA are encouraged to join the FMEA component that represents their specialty. In order for your students to be eligible to participate in All-State, the music director must hold a Full Active FMEA membership and an “Active” membership with their component organization(s).

All component organizations require their members to also have current, eligible FMEA and NAfME memberships. If you are joining or renewing your membership online, you will have the opportunity to add a component membership before submitting a payment. All purchased component memberships will have the same membership year as the accompanying FMEA membership.

The current component organizations are below.

The Florida Bandmasters Association promotes the expansion and improvement of band programs in Florida schools and professional growth for band directors.

The Florida Elementary Music Educators Association whose purpose is to unite and strengthen the professional standing of all elementary music teachers in order to encourage more effective teaching of music.
